Giving Flowers: A #PoetrySalute to the Voices Shaping Spoken Word

Yooo! Can y’all believe it’s April already?! You know what that means – National Poetry Month is officially HERE! Man, I love this time of year ’cause it’s all about celebrating the power of the word, the rhythm, the vibe… everything that makes spoken word poetry the force that it is. But listen, it ain’t just about the poems themselves, right? It’s about the people behind the mic, the ones pouring their souls out, shifting perspectives, and lighting fires with their Poetic Voice. So this month, we ain’t just celebrating the art; we celebrating the artists. It’s time to give some flowers, show some love, and salute the incredible talents pushing this whole thing forward.

For real though, the spoken word community, our tribe… it’s built on connection. We feed off each other’s energy, get inspired by each other’s truths, and learn from each other’s craft. Nobody gets here alone. That’s why all month long, I’m gonna be doing my #PoetrySalute right here and on the socials – think of it like giving out “fan flowers” to some of the most inspiring spoken word artists who’ve blessed the stage and shaped the game. I’m talking about cats like the legendary Taalam Acey, the champion wordsmith Ed Mabrey, the fire-spitter Shihan Van Clief, the insightful In-Q… just a few giants whose work keeps pushing me and so many others. We gotta lift each other up, you know? Recognize the dopeness when we see it and hear it.

So yeah, that’s the vibe for April. Let’s make some noise for the poets! Keep your eyes peeled for the daily #PoetrySalute posts, and hey – jump in! Who’s lighting you up right now? Drop some names, share the love, let’s make this whole month feel like one big cypher of appreciation. Let’s celebrate the words, the voices, the community. Stay tuned, stay inspired, and let’s get this Poetry Month LIT! Peace.
