We’ve all got that one magical place. You know the one. Where you step butt naked onto the porcelain stage, the hot and cold background singers engage, and you lift that soapy loofah microphone to your face and belt it out. We are all freaking amazing in there, right? It’s the one spot on the planet where we let our outside voice ALL the way out. But then the nylon curtain closes, you step out into the world, and you let yourself recoil back into your inside voice. That mighty bellow gets stuck somewhere between your heart and your throat, and you spend the rest of the day speaking to your team like you’re trying not to wake a sleeping baby. What’s up with that?
Listen, I see this all the time. I watch some of the top, most brilliant leaders walk into a boardroom with a vision that could change the world, but it’s trapped behind a limiting belief lodged right in their throat. They think, “Oh, my content is too dry,” or “I’m not a storyteller,” or “They’ll think I’m too creative.” As a Grammy Nominated Spoken Word Artist, I’ve made a career out of helping people clear that junk out. My work as a spoken word poet isn’t just about crafting a pretty line of spoken word poetry; it’s about helping you find the mighty in your message. That’s the work I do as a motivational poet and Vanguard Artist—to help you connect your purpose to your passion so powerfully that people have no choice but to lean in.
So here’s the deal. Your vision is only as powerful as your voice. Period. If you can’t get your team as hyped about your next quarter as you are about singing “Purple Rain” in the shower, you’re leaving impact on the table. You want to be one of the best, most effective leaders? One of the most inspiring communicators? Stop whispering your vision. You have to be voiceful. The world needs to hear your anthem, not just your agenda. So go on, clear your throat and let it out. This Grammy Nominated Poet Sekou is telling you: the world is waiting for your solo. Just, you know… maybe put a towel on first.
